Only a few months ago I had my first ever brow tinting experience. It was fairly daunting, but I fell in love and knew that brow tinting was something that I wanted to keep on top of. However, I became lazy and for some reason haven’t been back since. Then, a couple of weeks ago, the new Maybelline Tattoo Brow Gel Tint* fell into my lap, and I was very excited. Today’s post is going to be my Maybelline Tattoo Brow Gel Tint Review and Demo.
WHAT IS IT
The Maybelline Tattoo Brow Gel Tint is an at home brow gel tint. It is intended to last 3 days and in Australia, it’s available in 4 shades. From what I’ve seen online, the application seems simple enough. You’re apparently just supposed to brush over your brow hairs until they’re at the desired shape and have been evenly covered. You can leave it on for around 20minutes up to 2 hours if you’d really like some tint longevity.
MY BROWS AND WHAT I WANT FROM THIS PRODUCT
I like to think that I have a relatively nice, natural eyebrows. They’re kinda fluffy, a little sparse in some areas, but I make do. My main problem when I do my brows is that I can’t get them to look like sisters. They’re more like the distant cousins who are super distant and haven’t seen each other in quite a few years. As a result, I think my right eyebrow always sits slightly lower than the left.
What I’d like from this product is to have a great eyebrow base, for at least a couple of days. I don’t want or need it to last me weeks at a time. I just like having a guide and the eyebrows filled in a little more than usual when I start. No matter what, it’s going to save me time when I’m getting ready for work in the morning and that’s what I’m after.
Light Brown | Medium Brown | Dark Brown | Grey Brown
Yes, I know that these are brow tints and they aren’t supposed to be swatched like a lipstick or lipgloss on the skin. However, I wanted to swatch all four shades on my arm for the sake of showing you what they look like. The top 3 shades (lighter ones), are all quite warm. The last shade, is cool toned. Because of this, I don’t think that the colour range is the best, so I’m hoping that if this product kills it in the Australian market, they’ll introduce some more shades. My particular shade is the darkest shade of Grey Brown.
HOW DOES IT WORK
The application brush is made up of little hairy bristles. I really like that it is a brush rather than a sponge type applicator because I find that the brush makes it easy and flexible to work around my natural brow shape.
I basically just run the brush through my hairs, trying to concentrate more on the middle to outter. But, things don’t always work out that way and I accidentally made the inner portion too heavily pigmented. That’s life.
When you’re doing this, I suggest having a oil based cleanser with you and a cotton bud. That way if you go somewhere you don’t want to, you can clean it up quick and easy.
Not going to lie, it’s a pretty interesting experience and something I’ve never had before. The forumla goes on as a liquid and the way that it comes off is by rubbing, and peeling it off.

WHAT DO I THINK?
Honestly, I didn’t have the highest expectations. I thought that tinting was only something that professionals could do and that I’d be hopeless at doing it at home. But, I was blown away. I really didn’t expect to see these results, especially on the first go. The first time I used this product, I left it on for 20 minutes. I found that the tint lasted around 3 days and it was almost completely gone after that. 5 days after application, I re-tinted them again. I found that the tint lasted longer than the first time. However, my brow area felt a little sensitive so I probably won’t be tinting in such a small time frame in the future.
WILL I KEEP USING IT?
Definitely! Although the tint is most apparent during the first few days, I love how it makes filling in my brows extremely easy, and a lot quicker especially when I’m getting ready for work. I also love the convenience of the product because I can be doing whatever I like while I’m at home and these brows are processing.
Have you tried an at home tinting product before?
If so, how was your experience?
