Around this time last year, I couldn’t stop talking about The Amazing Rimmel The Only 1 Lipsticks. Well, the makeup gods have given us a great gift again in 2017, with a follow up range. Say hello to the also amazing Rimmel The Only 1 Matte Lipstick.
I usually begin with packaging, so let’s start there! The shape is identical to the original range. But, this time it’s matte and red. I really like the simplicity of the overall rube, with a little stripe detail that shows the individual lipstick shade.
I’m very impressed with the formula of these lipsticks. The best way that I can describe it is this. The lipstick basically runs over my lips, fills in any little natural cracks and smooths my lips over. I feel like I’ll be reaching for these all winter long when my lips are dry, but I still want the matte lipstick look. They are insanely comfortable so don’t be scared of this range if you usually hate mattes.
One little thing that I’m not entirely sure about this range is the scent. I personally prefered the original scent more, but even that was quite strong too. This one sometimes reminds me of hair colour, sometimes artificial berries and something else I can’t put my finger on. I’m not someone that’s offended by lipstick smells, so it doesn’t worry me. But, if you’re sensitive to scents, just keep this in mind.
Left to right: 200 Salute | 610 High Flyer| 110 Leader of Pink| 120 Call the Shots | 500 Take the Stage| 700 Trendsetter | 800 Run the Show | 750 Look Who’s Talking |810 The Matte Factor
200 Salute is a lovely grey toned, pink nude shade. When I swatched this shade, I thought I’d really like it. But it was teeny bit too grey for my particular skin tone.
610 High Flyer is of course, my favourite in the whole range. This colour just speaks to me, what can I say. I’m a sucker for dusty, pink, mauve, nude shades.
110 Leader of Pink is a very light, barbie, pink nude shade.
120 Call the Shots It’s a cross between a bright pink and a bright red, but there’s also something a little dusty to it. If you have tanned or olive skin, this will be a fave!
700 Trendsetter would be an incredible nude for anyone with a lighter skin tone than myself. The formula was however really great on such a light coloured shade. It covered my lips perfectly.
800 Run the Show is a lovely bright, light, purple matte. If you love purples, you’d love this one. It applies really nicely on the lips. I have to apply one quick layer. Do that thing where I smoosh my lips together, and then apply another thin layer towards the inner part of my lips.
500 Take the Stage is definitely one of the nicest matte red shades that I’ve worn. It’s blue toned so it makes my teeth POP. They look extra pearly white, so of course that’s a good thing. I find that this red is the perfect tone for my olive skin and I’ve added it into my ‘go to’ lipstick bunch.
750 Look Who’s Talking looks like it would be an absolute winner. When I did the initial swatches, I fell in love with this colour. Sadly, when I try to wear it on my lips, it doesn’t apply 100% evenly. I find that it rubs off a little bit, especially in the middle where my lips meet.
810 The Matte Factor is a mix between a deep pink and medium purple. It translates to this lovely almost brown shade that is incredibly wearable.
Overall, I’m really impressed with this range. At this stage, I feel pretty confident in saying that Rimmel is my favourite lipstick brand from the ‘drugstore’.
As Rimmel is hella accessible here in Australia, it’ll be great because you can go ham and swatch every single colour before making a decision. To see where you can find these gems, click here.
