Oily Skin Makeup Products from Adore Beauty

One thing that I talk about almost endlessly on the blog is how I have extremely oily skin. I’m always going on about how difficult it is to find products that genuinely work me. Today’s post is quite exciting because I get to tell you how I’ve gotten on with these 3 Oily Skin Makeup Products from Adore Beauty.

If you’re not sure who or what Adore Beauty is, they’re an Australian Based website. Their mission is to basically be a one stop shop for Aussie’s to get their hands on all of the makeup that they possibly can. One thing to mention to is that most of their prices are considerably lower than some of the big retailers here. Earlier this month, they approached me and said they wanted to collaborate. I was initially like ‘hmm, should I’, but I jumped on their website and found their oily skin concern section. Honestly, when I saw that I was like to myself hell yeah sign me up! From the get go, I already appreciated that they’ve created categories of products based on skin types. That is honestly the dream.

Moving onto the products themselves!

I’m sure we all know that BECCA is known for all things glow. Because I’m someone who is insanely oily, I never thought of trying their other primers. But, then I saw this one and I thought it was worth a shot.

The first thing I noticed with this primer is that it’s really thick. To get it out of the tube, you have to apply quite a bit of pressure. The formula itself is slightly cool and tacky when you apply it to the skin. It dries very quickly and wherever I placed it, my pores almost vanished and my skin felt really smooth.

But, does it help prevent me from getting extra oily during the day? I can definitely say that it does to an extent. It doesn’t keep me ENTIRELY matte for long periods of time. But, it does help slow things down. After I blot for the first time, I don’t really have to again afterwards too which is great. Unless of course it’s over 30 degrees, because then my skin will never be safe from oils if I’m being completely honest with you! If you haven’t found a primer that works for your oily skin before, I’d suggest giving this one a go!

One of my favourite foundations of all time is the BECCA Aqua Luminous Foundation. I know, that sounds weird because I’m oily. But, it actually works very well on my skin for a short period of time! Because I really do like that foundation, it’s given me pretty high hopes for this one.

Honestly, this foundation has me. It’s one of the best foundations I’ve used for my skin in a very long time. I actually want to do an entire post dedicated to this foundation, so I’ll try not to give too many spoilers here.

This foundation goes on flat matte to the point where I was a little worried that it was too matte. None of my skin’s natural shine comes through at all. If you have dry patches or overall dry skin, definitely stick away because this is for us oily people.

Once applied to the skin, the formula is quick drying and it will stay where you place it. Because of this, I found that applying it by dotting it on my face and trying to use a wet sponge, did not work. The way I have to use this foundation is by doing small sections at a time with a flat top kabuki brush.

After a few hours when the initial full matte effect starts to fade, natural oils do come through. But, very gracefully. Also, if you’re someone that likes to do powder touch ups, don’t worry this never looks cakey or thick on the face. It also doesn’t settle into fine lines and pores. It kind of smoothes right over them.

Again, I’m super surprised. This is one of the best translucent powders I’ve ever used. The powder is completely matte, with no shimmers in sight. It’s also extremely fine milled, meaning that it is so thin and smooth. It comes up true translucent on my skin and I haven’t noticed any flashback at night.

As with the other products, I found that this really helps reduce the appearance of my pores. But, I’ll still need a further touch up after 4 hours or so.

One thing that I really don’t like about this product is the packaging. Once you peel off the initial tape that stops the powder from pouring out, you basically only have the proper packaging lid to save you. If you knock the lid off by accident, bye bye powder and bye bye money. I wish it had more of a safeguard and I also feel like I accidentally dispense too much of this product.

Overall, I’m really happy with these three products! They’ve all reduced the appearance of my pores and helped keep some of my oils at bay. I’m going to 100% keep using the foundation and most likely the powder. The primer is also good, but I’m not sure if it will replace what I usually go for.

If you’ve got other skin concerns, definitely go on the Adore Beauty site because they have makeup suggestions specifically for dry skin, dark circles or under eyes, as well as acne prone and sensitive skin.

I really love how they have proper categories for every skin type. I really struggle cause my skin is significantly combination with dry dry dry on the perimeters and really oily everywhere else, so I think I may need to look into checking out their site!

    • Ohhh wow that sounds really different! You’d probably have to try using different foundations in different spots right? x

Would you say that Kryolan powder is better than the Laura Mercier one at controlling oil? I currently use Banila Co.’s setting powder and it gives a white cast that looks chalky 🙁

    • I’ve only ever tried the Laura Mercier one once at a friends house! So, I can’t really say 100%. But, I do love the Kryolan one 🙂 x
