A brand that is slowly but surely making its way into my regular makeup routine is Smashbox. Before last month, I really hadn’t dabbled in anything. And now? Well, I’ve got 20 of their Smashbox Be Legendary Lipsticks* to play with! I really wanted to prioritise my Smashbox Be Legendary Lipsticks Review because I’ve never used any Smashbox lipsticks before. I also really wanted to get this post up before Christmas because I think that these lipsticks will be great on your Wishlist or Gift Idea List.
Beginning with the important details, a Be Legendary Lipstick contains 0.1oz or 3g of product. To my USA readers, you have an amazing 120 shades to choose from and they will set you back $21 US each. To my fellow Aussies, we have a more modest yet still impressive 36 shade selection, and they will set us back $30 AUD each.
In my opinion, Smashbox injected a bit of new life into the classic lipstick. This range has a couple cool twists and shades that I haven’t seen before.
The packaging has been kept mostly traditional, but has been given a square shape remake. It’s literally cool to touch because it has a metal-finish. The down side? Well, fingerprints are quite visible! I tried very hard to hide in this posts photography, but they’re there. Another fun piece of information is that these sound like dominoes when you play around with the packaging or stack them up.
Vitamins C and E make an appearance in the formula and as you can assume, the lipsticks are extremely smooth. Both the Satin and Matte finishes apply effortlessly and require very little pressure. I actually can’t pick one finish over the other beause even the Mattes feel very comfortable on my lips. I haven’t experienced any flaking, dry patches or unevenness. I will say however that a couple of the shades didn’t apply or wear as nicely as some, but I’ll mention specifics in a second.

It’s fairly obvious from all of those photos, but there is an incredible spread of colour selection in this range. Out of the total 120 shades there are pinks, purples, bolds, nudes, reds, corals, browns, neutrals and berries!
I would say that the majority of these lipsticks are ones that I wouldn’t normally choose for myself. I’m definitely more of a my lips but better, mauvey-brown shade lover, but I actually enjoy the challenge! One colour that I’ve kind of written off for myself is reds, and strangely enough one of my favourite shades is Screen Queen. It’s a lovely burgundy matte shade and I find that it makes my teeth look extra white. My other favourite shades are Plum Role, Pinch Me and La Sunset which is quite sheer and a little more glossy than the others.
Earlier on I mentioned that some formulas weren’t applying as nicely as I would have hoped for. Tabloid is one of them. It appears to be a gorgeous, bright, purple but it unfortunately applied a little unevenly. I couldn’t get a consistent layer and I found that it wasn’t as bright purple but more fluorescent almost. This was the only shade I had a little trouble with but maybe Google for swatches if you’re after a particular shade and you can’t get into a store – just in case!
