It amazes me that the year is finished and that I’m already posting my Best In Beauty 2016 post. If you haven’t heard of best in beauty posts before, think of this as my yearly favourites. The things that I absolutely loved all of this year or fell seriously head over heels for in the last bit of the year.
Maybelline Masterfix Setting Spray*
Earlier this year, I posed a review and demo on the Maybelline Masterfix Setting Spray. If there is one thing that I initially felt about this product, it was pretty sceptical. I never had good luck with higher end setting sprays such as Urban Decay’s and I was thinking how could this one from the drugstore work!? Well, I was really wrong. This spray has stuck by my side and I really like it. I usually spray it once I’ve finished my whole face but when I really want my makeup to last, I’ll also do a quick spray after I’ve done my base.
bareMinerals Blemish Remedy Foundation
When I started working full time this year, I knew that I couldn’t wear liquid foundations all day. My skin is acne prone enough as is and I really didn’t want to pack anything too heavy on my skin, for a long period of time. I bought this literally as soon as I got my very first pay slip and I haven’t looked back since. This powder goes on looking like a powder (obviously), but as my oils come through during the day, it looks more like a liquid foundation. I only have to add a little bit of powder to my nose to hide extra oils and that’s about it. This foundation hasn’t broken me out and it feels so comfortable.
Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer*
Believe it or not, I never really used concealer properly until this day. I was invited to get a make over at a new Bobbi Brown Australia display and got some products to play with. This was one of them and I’ve used it almost everyday since. It gives my pimples a great level of coverage. They’re hidden, but the formula isn’t too thick or heavy.
Benefit Cosmetics Whats Up Highlighter and Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal*
Of course this combination made an appearance! I love these two highlighters equally and they make such a beautiful pair. I love applying Whats Up with my finger onto the tops of my cheeks. I then use a tapered brush to apply Opal and I’m set. I love how they look together and I honestly have to make a conscious effort to ever try any other highlighter.
Ciate London Pretty, Fun and Fearless Palette
If you’re a regular reader of my blog or follow me on social media, you’d know that I can’t put this palette down. This palette has been my ride or die since getting in October. I know that isn’t a large chunk of the year, but hey it’s been such a game changer so it had to be included. This palette has really pushed me to be more creative with my eye looks. I used to be someone who’d just wear neutral colours or a highlighter on my lid and contour shade in my crease. Now, I love using warmer shades and playing with different combos. NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base
People have been recommending this product for me and my oily eyelids for probably 2 years now. I finally bit the bullet and bought it around August this year. I could tell from the first time I used it that my eyeshadow would never be the same again. This is without a doubt the best eyeshadow base that I have ever used and could recommend for people with oily eyelids. I used to have a problem where I’d pack on my eyeshadows and around 30 minutes later, you could barely see anything. I get an entire day of eyeshadow wear on my lids with this stuff and it might crease maybe 8 hours in!? Miracle in a tube I swear.
Chi Chi Cosmetics Brow Pomade
I’ve loved this stuff for quite a while now. I’ve never tried any of the fancy or high end brow pomades, but that’s because I don’t need to. I picked this up on sale at Target and it was just over $10 AUD. I use this nearly every day and I’ve barely made a dent. It’s such a smooth formula that it glides onto my brows and stays put wherever I place it. It fills everything in and is really flexible when it comes to how dramatic or natural I can do my brows.
Watts Up layered with Opal | November | Ruffle Trim | Two shades from the Pretty Fun Fearless Palette
Colourpop Ultra Matte in November
This year, I finally decided to try Colourpop. I bought quite a few liquid lipsticks as well as a couple lippie stix. One of my favourites has been this lovely shade, November. For me, this is actually a bright shade and I love using it whenever I feel like doing something more than my lips but better. To see my Colourpop Collection click here.
NYX Cosmetics Lip Lingerie in Ruffle Trim
Lip Lingeries were all the hype this year and I fell! I’ve only bought one but I can totally understand why they’re so popular. I find the Lip Lingerie formula more comfortable than Colourpop’s and I’m just a sucker for this colour! It dries lovely and soft, doesn’t crack and is very easy to reapply during the day.
Essie Virgin Snow* and Nail Lab Edna*
2016 was definitely the year of pastel and purple nail polish for me. In this case, it’s both of those things. Virgin Snow is a lovely light pastel purple. Sometimes it looks a little more blue and sometimes even pink. It’s so delicate and I loved it in winter with darker knits. Edna is such an insanely pretty pastel purple shade and I’ve worn it to death. It’s brighter than my other purple pastels and I don’t think I’ve ever loved a nail polish as much. The formula is great and it lasts me almost a full week before any chips appear.
Calvin Klein CK2*
Fragrances are something that I find pretty hard to get through. I usually love a scent for a few weeks and then get distracted. That didn’t really happen here and this has been my most worn fragrance all of this year. It’s unisex and something that I find incredibly refreshing. If you love scents that aren’t sweet, you’ll adore this.
Bobbi Brown Soothing Cleansing Oil*
I know I already mentioned the words game changer in this post, but I have to again. This makeup remover is a game changer. Out of every product that I’ve used this year, this has made the most substantial difference. It literally melts away my makeup, including my waterproof mascara. My skin is left feeling soft and not stripped. I haven’t used any Micellar Waters since this came into my life and I know it’s expensive, but it is soooo worth it! I have some cheaper alternatives but they’re just not up to par!
La Roche-Posay Effaclar Gel Moussant Purifiant*
Every day and night this year since receiving a heap of La Roche-Posay, this has been the only facial cleanser I’ve used. I’ll use it in the morning, at night and after I remove makeup with my Bobbi Brown Soothing Cleansing Oil. This cleanser has seriously slowed down my oil production and it never takes too much oil out. Therefore, my skin never breaks out and goes crazy. A little bit of this cleanser also goes a very long way and I’m only now almost finished my first tube.
That’s it! I hope you enjoyed this post. Incase you’re interested, here is my Best Of Beauty 2015 post.
