As I sit here writing my October Monthly Favourites for 2016, I wanted to quickly reflect on what a lovely month I’ve had. Aside from turning 22, I landed a great job and went on an amazing family holiday. September was a slump and October picked right up. I hope that this is just a sign of things to come and I’m super excited for the rest of this year.
My Monthly Favourites are a little bit of a mixed bag. There’s a couple new bits but actually, most of these are old faves that have made it back into my routine.
For the past few months I’ve been obsessed with my Stila In The Light Palette. I decided that it was about time to try something else again and I rediscovered my Lorac Pro. I forgot how amazingly buttery the shadows were and how diverse the entire palette is. My favourite shade is Mauve and I love using it in the crease instead of a light brown to mix things up that little bit.
The Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base was something that I put off purchasing for what seems like forever. I honestly have no idea why I didn’t listen to people about this product earlier. Let me tell you. If you have oily eyelids and NOTHING has ever worked before, this will work wonders. Since owning this eyeshadow primer, I feel like throwing out all of my others out because nothing compares. I beg you, please try go get a sample. Fall in love and thank me later.
MAC Cosmetics Midimauve was an old favourite of mine that I thought I lost. I found it in a handbag and was beyond happy. Out of every lipstick I’ve ever used, this is definitely my favourite. There’s something about it that just works in harmony with my olive skin tone and I never want to be without it. I know that sounds dramatic but hey, ‘you don’t know what you got till’ it’s gone’. I’m definitely going to get a backup because I’ve almost run out.
OFRA Liquid Lipstick in Mocha* is a product that I had very high expectations of. I have heard so much about this product and when I received it in a LustHaveIt box, I had to try it straight away. Since, I haven’t been able to stop using it. As you can see from the above swatches, it’s along the same family of Midimauve but has slightly more pink and is of course a matte formula. By no means does this product last all day on my lips, but it feels very comfortable and looks hella nice.
Without a doubt my favourite of all favourites this month is the Bobbi Brown Soothing Cleansing Oil*. If you saw My Top 5 From Bobbi Brown Post here you’d already know why I love this product. If you didn’t, essentially this super smooth, oil formula (that doesn’t feel oily believe it or not), literally melts away all of my makeup. I’ve removed so many steps of my skincare routine and this baby hasn’t made my skin break out at all. In the next month or so I’ll have a blogpost comparing a few different cleansing oils as well as my updated skincare routine. Let me know if you’re excited!
Charles Worthington’s Salt Spray* is a product that you would have seen before. I’ve spoken about it many times here on the blog, in particular in this Salt Spray Battle Comparison Post here. I LOVE this stuff. No Salt Spray compares. When the warmth picks up or I’m feeling lazy with my hair but want it to look a little special, this is the product I use. It doesn’t leave my hair feeling gritty and it actually has a lovely scent to it. If you haven’t found a good Salt Spray yet, I can’t recommend this one enough.
A favourite that might seem a little random is the Daniel Wellington Classic Black*. I know that there is a gazillion watch options out there nowadays but for me, none are as beautiful and reliable as Daniel Wellington. I’ve now got three of their watches and I love every single one of them. Their new addition is their Classic Black and it works with every single damn outfit and I love it.
One last favourite that I’d like to mention is strangely enough, not wearing any makeup. For just over a week my family and I went to Cairns / Port Douglas. If you aren’t from Australia, just know that it is mighty beautiful and very hot. I decided that I didn’t want to take makeup with me. My skin was in the sun (with sun protection of course), and it really cleared up. I enjoyed having more time on my hands, feeling fresh and not having to worry about anything melting off. I usually pack so much makeup with me and never use it or only use it once. My skin is currently very happy so I’m going to try and keep my makeup usage lower than usual.
What were some of your October favourites?
